Position: Volunteer Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Forest Park Forever is seeking an experienced Volunteer Coordinator to support our expanding volunteer programs and opportunities. Qualified individuals for the role are passionate about the community and shared green spaces, eager to work with and guide diverse groups and teams, enjoy taking on new, complex challenges and have a sincere interest in advancing Forest Park Forever’s mission.
This role will support the recruitment of new volunteers while leveraging existing volunteers to meet organizational and departmental needs on a variety of projects including Park initiatives, special events or operational needs.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Assists the Volunteer Manager with:
Recruitment of volunteers including: interviewing, screening, scheduling, placement, orientation and training.
Communicating with potential new and seasoned volunteers.
Engagement and training of existing volunteers for new initiatives and projects.
Guiding volunteers through a variety of programs, activities and special events, including planning and logistics.
Maintaining volunteer database including document management, logging service hours and reporting.
Coordination of volunteer recognition programs.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Able to work a non-traditional work week with occasional early mornings, weekends and evenings required when programming is scheduled.
Experience working with and coordinating volunteers and/or teams spanning a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Ability to represent the organization in a way that excites and instills confidence with volunteers and other Park stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across a broad range of audiences using various mediums and platforms effectively.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as a team – demonstrating a collaborative mindset towards problem solving through active listening and a solutions-oriented approach.
Experience with data analysis including reporting and data entry, required; experience with Volgistics database management, a plus.
Familiarity with project management software (Basecamp, a plus).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with the willingness to adopt new applications, is required.
Minimum of an associate’s degree preferred and/or commiserate job experience.
Nonprofit experience a plus; a passion for community and green spaces, a must.
LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATION(S) REQUIRED:
Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS/WORK CONDITIONS:
Frequently works indoors in an office environment with the ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
Occasionally works outdoors, traversing uneven terrain across the Park with the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, sometimes in unpleasant weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Ability to flex working hours to accommodate morning, evening and weekend activities, as needed.
Frequently moves materials, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds, for a reasonable distance.
