Job Description

The Night Shift Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment essential for our mining operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment maintenance, a keen eye for detail, and a dedication to safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF POSITION:

• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles, trade techniques, properties of various materials, and operating/application principles of equipment.
• Determines nature and extent of repair work required, plans details of working procedure, locking and tagging out equipment, obtains tools and materials required.
• Diagnosis and troubleshoots, repairs, adjusts, replaces, overhauls, dismantles, rebuilds, installs, tests, cleans, and lubricates all types of mobile equipment components. This also includes maintenance of pickup trucks, service trucks, and welders.
• Performs hard service of buckets, inventory of teeth, segments and all bucket wear items at the quarry. Keep inventory of all wear items of the buckets, cracks, and teeth wear. Take pictures and document the buckets and beds of the mobile equipment.
• Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, couplings and shafts involving the application of press, sliding, or running fits.
• Adjusts and measures to close tolerances using precision testing and measuring equipment.
• Installs and repairs all types of high- and low-pressure hoses with mechanical fittings.
• Operates oxyacetylene and other welding equipment to burn, braze and perform minor welding.
• Operates machine tools such as drill press, band saw, hydraulic press, bolt and pipe threader.
• Operates pendent control crane and hoisting equipment to move and position equipment and materials.
• When necessary, operates mobile equipment.
• Cleans and applies anti-corrosive compounds to overhauled equipment.
• Performs scheduled emergency and preventative maintenance work and advises supervision when shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage and production interruptions.
• Collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to prioritize and address equipment issues.
• Keeps work area, tools and equipment in an orderly condition including the parts room and Conex trailer during the scheduled shift.
• Communicate with both night/day shift production supervisors or lead man.
• Adheres to all MSHA safety protocols.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Previous mining experience is an asset
• Must be able to provide proper documentation that you have the legal right to work in the United States.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or listen.
• The employee is required to handle heavy loads as this position is physically demanding.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders for extended periods of time.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
• While performing the duties of this job the person is exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Prior heavy equipment mechanic experience
